Edivette Lopez-Benn

Attorney

Edivette Lopez-Benn is a highly skilled and experienced immigration and nationality law attorney who focuses exclusively on this area of law. She is dedicated to helping clients with all aspects of immigration law, including removal and deportation proceedings before the Executive Office of Immigration Review and Board of Immigration Appeals.

Ms. Lopez-Benn has a proven track record of success in obtaining adjustment of status in the United States, consular representation with the Department of State, and waivers of inadmissibility. She has also helped countless victims of crime, trafficking, and domestic violence obtain U visas, T visas, and immigrant visas under the Violence Against Women Act.

Ms. Lopez-Benn is committed to helping clients obtain humanitarian relief such as asylum, Temporary Protected Status, NACARA relief, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. She is also dedicated to helping clients obtain citizenship and disability waivers in connection with citizenship matters.

With over 20 years of experience in immigration law, Ms. Lopez-Benn has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that she uses to help her clients achieve their immigration goals. She began her legal career working as an attorney at a non-profit agency, where she represented indigent victims of domestic violence. Subsequently, she spent nearly four years working as an immigration attorney for the Latin American Association, where she founded the LAA’s removal defense program.

Ms. Lopez-Benn is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), where she currently serves on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Committee and Military Assistance Program (MAP) Committee and previously served as Chair of the Liaison Committee for the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR). She has appeared on Spanish radio to discuss immigration issues and has spoken on immigration issues for the Georgia-Alabama Chapter Conference of AILA.

Ms. Lopez-Benn earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, cum laude, from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1994 and her Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America in 1997. She is an active member of the bar of the State of New Jersey.

Karla Ortega

Legal Assistant

Karla Ortega is a dedicated legal assistant who has been an integral part of the Edivette Lopez-Benn Law Firm team since 2017. Originally from Guatemala, Karla has been living in Georgia since 2010 with her loving husband, four wonderful children, and their furry family member.

Karla's passion for helping people and her natural ability to connect with clients make her a valuable asset to our team. Her attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask help ensure that our clients receive the highest level of service possible.

Outside of work, Karla enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, playing soccer, and exploring new travel destinations. She is also actively involved in her community and has a big heart for helping others.

Tania Prado

Legal Assistant

Tania Prado, originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, joined the firm in 2023. She is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Kennesaw State University majoring in Political Science. Previously, Tania worked with GALEO, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing Latino leadership in the state of Georgia. Additionally, Tania interned with the Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, where she assisted the Judiciary Team in drafting cosponsor recommendations for the Senator and met with constituents and organizations of Georgia. As an aspiring immigration attorney, Tania is dedicated to providing clients with the best experience. 

Tania is passionate about helping others and brings a big heart to her work at the firm. Her attention to detail and organizational skills ensure that all client matters are handled efficiently and effectively.
